Organisational Background
Child First Welfare Foundation is a Nigerian child welfare and rights protection non-governmental organisation with headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State Nigeria and with physical presence in Lagos and Abuja. The organisation was created in February 2020. Child First Welfare Foundation team is made up of experienced child protection experts who have put in several years of work with Terre des Hommes Foundation (a child relief Non-Governmental Organization with headquarters in Lausanne Switzerland ) and have gained adequate knowledge on how to run a non-governmental organisation in line with global best practices.
The organisation was set up in Nigeria and two other West African Countries, namely Benin Republic and Togo by Terre des hommes’ staff when the latter decided to close her Gulf of Guinea office. In these three countries, given the place of choice occupied by Terre des hommes in the field of child protection, children’s rights defence since 1974 (Benin), 1977 ( Togo) and 2007 (Nigeria), the achievements witnessed by her staff in terms of serious work done and the expertise developed through several years of collaboration within Tdh, the staff saw the need to register Child First to continue the work of protecting the rights of the child. These three organisations constitute a sub-regional alliance within which each organisation will keep its identity and autonomy.
